Angel Investing – Are You Winning or Losing?

Angel Investor's Toolkit creator Kent PaveyDear Angel Investor,

I’ve been angel investing since 2002. I’m a member of a 20-person angel group and have also made personal investments on my own. I’ve looked at several hundred deals and term-sheets, and made a few dozen investments.

Over the years, I have seen angels make some common mistakes over and over again. I hate to admit it, but I’ve made a few of them myself. A true fact of angel investing is that your money is gone when you write your check. You then have ownership in a deal that will either reward you handsomely or eventually take your money. Making correct decisions up front is the most valuable thing you can do to assure great returns.

One major problem with angel investing is the lack of a simple, consistent process for evaluating deals and modeling potential returns. Angels need some simple tools that allow them to organize their due diligence process, score deals in a consistent way, evaluate term sheets, and assess the potential risks and rewards.

If your angel investing group is like mine, or even if you invest on your own, you occasionally attempt to develop some tools to help improve your process. These are typically scorecard documents or a spreadsheet of some kind. These don’t work very well – they aren’t flexible enough for the real deal flow, don’t get used consistently, don’t really support deal comparisons, and in general don’t meet the needs of each individual angel. Most often they are only used for a few deals before being changed or abandoned. Months later you try again with similar results … Clearly, this is not the path to optimal angel investing profits!

I built the Angel Investor’s Toolkit to address these problems. This software includes a set of easy-to-use information tools that will simplify your due diligence process, organize your investments, and lead to well-informed investment decisions. Whether your typical investment size is $50,000, $100,000 or even as small as $15,000, if the Angel Investor’s Toolkit helps you identify just one great deal, or avoid just one bad investment, it will pay for itself many times over.

The Angel Investor’s Toolkit will be the best investment you’ve ever made.
